UBS and the environment - Protecting our future
Protecting our future
We are committed to protecting the environment.
UBS is committed to acting in an environmentally responsible manner in all its business dealings. Our environmental policy defines principles and responsibilities for managing environmental issues and aims to create long-term value for the firm and its stakeholders. It calls for UBS to identify and manage its environmental risks, provide clients with a range of financial products and services that address environmental and social challenges, and minimize the impact its operations have on the environment.
Reducing our greenhouse gas footprint
We have reduced our firm-wide CO2 emissions by 40% since 2004. Steps taken towards achieving this target included adopting internal efficiency measures, increasing the proportion of renewable energy used and offsetting emissions we cannot avoid, such as business air travel. We have set a new target as part of our renewed climate change strategy and will aim to reduce our CO2 emissions by a further 15% by 2016, resulting in an overall reduction of 50% below 2004 levels.
Paper, waste and water targets
We also set targets to reduce our paper and water consumption, reduce waste and increase recycling. The measures we are taking include double-sided printing and copying, an ongoing shift toward distributing electronic documents and steadily increasing the share of office paper from Forest Stewardship Council or recycled sources.
Responsible supply chain management
Responsible sourcing and procurement is a key aspect of UBS's approach to human rights and the environment, in line with our endorsement of the UN Global Compact principles, and in support of the UBS Group Environmental Policy and the UBS Statement on Human Rights and the UBS Group Policy Against Corruption.
