The venue for many historic races down the years, where great drivers clinched world championship glory, Suzuka vies with Spa as the circuit most loved by the drivers. Designed in the 1970s by John Hugenholz, it was originally a proving ground for the nearby Honda factory. The iconic figure-of-eight circuit presents a series of fast corners with few braking zones. While on paper, the layout doesn’t lend itself to overtaking, there is always a way through for the committed driver. The 170mph 130R corner has a long history of enticing spectacular crashes while the final chicane offers the chance for an opportunistic move up the inside. Suzuka is perhaps best known for the infamous clashes between Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna in 1989 and 1990.
