The venue calls itself the 'Home of Motorsport' and it’s certainly one of the most popular tracks among the drivers, who love its high speed challenge. Silverstone's connection with Formula 1 stretches back to 1950 when it hosted the first ever World Championship race. Eight of the 12 teams on the 2011 grid are based within 80-miles of the famous circuit. Built on a former World War II airfield, Silverstone is one of the fastest tracks on the calendar and famous for its awe-inspiring Becketts complex, which shows off an F1 car’s ability to change direction quickly. The circuit and facilities underwent a major overhaul in recent years so it is fit for purpose in modern F1.
