2012 FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX OF EUROPE (Valencia) June 24
Circuit length: 5.419km
Race distance: 308.883km
Laps: 57
There was a time when Spanish interest in Formula 1 was at an all time low and the race at Barcelona struggled to draw a crowd. But following the emergence of Spanish two times champion Fernando Alonso, interest has exploded to the extent that Spain was awarded a second race in Valencia. The street circuit runs alongside the sea while the teams use the garages previously used for the America's Cup yacht race. The 25-corner circuit includes some fast sweeping sections towards the end of the lap and tight chicanes which are lined with concrete walls, but it is a tough circuit on which to overtake and safety cars can upset race strategy. Statistically, it’s one of the most likely tracks to see a safety car.
