2012 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX (Singapore) September 23

Circuit length: 5.073km
Race distance: 309.316km
Laps: 61

Though the country only held its first race in 2008, the Singapore Grand Prix has already established itself as one of the most important races on the calendar, along with Monaco. The gateway to Asia and a hub for business, it is well attended by many of the top executives of the large companies involved in the sport. F1’s first night race, the event is held against the backdrop of an illuminated city skyline, on a circuit made up of streets in the Marina Bay area of the city. Like Istanbul, Interlagos and Yas Marina, the race runs anti-clockwise, while the bumpy nature of the circuit creates some spectacular imagery when the sparks start to fly. The first race will always be remembered for Felipe Massa driving down the pitlane with his fuel hose still attached while out on track, Nelson Piquet controversially crashed his Renault on purpose.
