Brazil is South America’s sole Formula 1 venue. While it’s a little rough around the edges, the venue boasts a unique atmosphere with party-loving locals and a challenging, undulating track that is steeped in history. Interest in the sport in Brazil peaked during Ayrton Senna’s era in the 1980s and 90s and his two wins at Interlagos are highlights, as was the 2008 race when Lewis Hamilton passed Timo Glock on the final corner of the final lap to win the title. The passionate and noisy crowd can see most of the circuit from their grandstand seats. The venue is also at one of the highest altitudes of any F1 circuit at just over 800 metres. This means that the atmospheric pressure is almost 10% less than at sea level and this cuts engine power, downforce and drag by a similar amount.
