2011 race winner Sebastian Vettell (Red Bull) Barcelona has hosted the Spanish Grand Prix since 1991, the year before the Olympics. It’s always a significant race because, as the first European race of the season, this is typically the race at which most teams introduce their first major aerodynamic upgrade to their cars. It is a circuit which tests the allround performance of the cars, particularly the aerodynamics and it gives a good indication of the pecking order for the remainder of the season. The track is well-known to all the teams and drivers because it's one of the regular testing tracks. This year the teams tested here twice before the start of the racing season.
