UBS Investment Bank tops Thomson Reuters Extel Survey 2009 for unprecedented ninth consecutive year

London | | Media Releases EMEA

UBS Investment Bank was today voted the Leading Pan-European Brokerage firm for Equity and Equity Linked Research for a record ninth consecutive year and increased its lead over the nearest competitor from 1.23% in 2008 to 1.56% in 2009.

The Thomson Reuters Extel Survey also ranked UBS Investment Bank number one for Equity & Equity Linked Sales for a record eighth year running and number two for Equity Trading and Execution. UBS is the only firm to be ranked in the top two in all the key disciplines of research (#1), sales (#1), execution (#2) and corporate access (#1). UBS also retained it's number one position as the Leading Pan-European Brokerage Firm for Operations and was ranked number three for derivatives.

Nick Pink, head of European Equity Research commented;

"We are delighted to be rated the number one research house for the ninth year in succession. This award reflects our long standing commitment to providing high quality advice to our clients through the cycle. The recognition is all the more rewarding this year as it confirms that UBS can add value in the most difficult markets for a generation. Many thanks to our clients for their support and congratulations to successful teams"

Commenting on the sales achievement, William Kennedy, Head of European Equities said;

"You cannot be number one for eight years in a row by doing things the same way or without facing challenges. We have maintained our position because we listen to our clients and build high quality teams. Despite the pressures of the current market, our people continue to rise to the client and market challenges; all credit to the team. We look forward to the year ahead and intend to remain number one."

The Extel award follows the announcement in February this year that UBS had been voted Institutional Investor Magazine's 2009 number one ranked All-European Research Team for a record eighth consecutive year.
