UBS Singapore volunteers for Special Olympics
Over 142 UBS employees together with their families and friends participated as volunteers throughout the 4-day National Special Olympic Games held from 31 May to 4 June in Singapore. UBS's volunteers helped as game masters, team captains and photographers at the event.
On 2 June 2013, UBS Singapore hosted the inaugural social evening, Assembly of Heroes – a Celebration of Friendship at Sheares Hall, National University of Singapore. The social evening was incorporated into the National Special Olympic Games program to promote social interaction between the athletes from special education schools in Singapore, as well as two contingents from Philippines and Malaysia.
Ms Teo Lay Sie, Group Chief Operating Officer, UBS Singapore and Asia Emerging Markets, said: "UBS's participation in this event and the high level of staff volunteerism reinforces our commitment to be a positive presence in our local community and gives our employees the opportunity to lend a helping hand. Inviting friends and families of staff bears testimony to our belief in adopting a family centric approach towards our CSR initiatives. Through UBS's support of the Games, I hope this will help to integrate our different talents and build a platform of awareness and support for people with special needs."
