UBS bolsters Asian Prime Brokerage and Equity Finance teams

Underlining its commitment to the provision of on-the-ground resources to its clients in Asia, UBS has announced a series of appointments to its prime brokerage and equity finance teams in the region.

"The appointments go a long way towards fulfilling our aim of providing our clients with risk management, information technology and logistical support on the ground in all of the time zones in which we operate," said Masataka (Mas) IWATA, Co-Head of Equity Finance, Asia Pacific.

"The additions and enhancements made to the teams over the past two months will ensure we sustain the substantial momentum UBS's prime brokerage business already has across the region," added Matt PECOT, Co-Head of Equity Finance, Asia Pacific.

Alastair SCLATER joins the prime broking team in Hong Kong as senior hedge fund services sales from Merrill Lynch in Tokyo where he covered the Asia Pacific client base for the past three and a half years. He reports to Matt Pecot.

Richard LAY has relocated to Hong Kong as an account manager in the Hong Kong-based hedge fund service account management team from London, where he had a similar role focusing on synthetic equity swaps.

Kelvin KOO has joined the hedge fund service account management team. Previously, he has been responsible for the deployment of a new settlement system across APAC. Both Lay and Koo report to Vui-Ling LEONG, Head of Account Management Asia.

Eddie LAU has relocated to Hong Kong as risk manager for Asia Pacific Equity Finance. Lau, who has been with UBS for two years, had a similar role with the Stamford-based risk management team. He reports to Pecot and Iwata.

In Australia, Paul THOMAS and Dan WALLIS have been appointed as account managers in the Sydney-based prime brokerage team and report to David GRAY, Head of Australia Prime Brokerage.

"The appointment of Paul and Dan with their valuable Australian and international operations knowledge reinforce our commitment to serving hedge funds here in Australia," said Gray.

In Japan, Kasumi SHIBANO has been appointed Head of Securities Lending Japan and Asia. Previously, she worked for 10 years at Morgan Stanley in Japan and London, where she was responsible for Japan /Asia securities lending trading. Separately, Michael MILLS has relocated from New York to Japan to take responsibility for hedge fund services sales in Japan. Mills and Shibano report to Iwata.

Carter BISHOP and Sasha WALDIN have joined the securities lending trading desk in Japan from Deutsche Securities and Bear Sterns Securities Japan, respectively. Both report to Shibano.

Osamu YAMASHITA, has transferred from the securities lending sales desk in the equity finance group, and Yoshinori HAYASHI, has joined from Goldman Sachs Japan, to become dedicated Tokyo-based hedge fund services account managers. Both report to Iwata.
