UBS recognized as a CIO 100 award honoree

UBS is the proud recipient of a 2012 CIO 100 Award for its FA Mobile application, the innovative wealth management platform for the iPad. Every year International Data Group (IDG)’s CIO magazine identifies and honors 100 organizations that have distinguished themselves by creating business value through the effective and innovative use of IT. This prestigious award demonstrates to clients, employees and other stakeholders UBS’s commitment to industry-leading IT initiatives.

FA Mobile was created to meet the UBS Wealth Management (WMA) need to provide new mobile capabilities to their financial advisors (FAs) while leveraging the growing popularity of the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trend. The application will enable financial advisors across the USA to access account information, research and market data when they are working outside of the office.

One of the top producers in the firm who participated in the pilot commented: "An advisor's commodity is time. Any way you can help me create time and make more of my time useful makes me more productive and allows me to provide better service to my clients. Even if it's only 10% or 15% more, it makes a huge difference."

The development and design of UBS FA Mobile has succeeded largely because it followed the core UBS IT management principle of "business led, demand-driven" innovation. The project team developed a mobile platform to deliver enterprise functionality with a "native" mobile user experience that is fast, secure, and easy-to-use. This technology will eventually support a variety of tablets, smart phones, and computer systems and can be reused by other business areas across the firm.

UBS is honored to be recognized with a CIO 100 Award which affirms our focus on innovation and client satisfaction as the hallmarks of our IT organization. This award highlights how the firm is leveraging the investment in our technology infrastructure to be more agile while providing better services for our customers.

Recipients of this year’s CIO 100 award were selected by a team of 36 judges who reviewed all applications for the award and debated their merits, based on innovative IT solutions to support business initiatives, as well as unique practices and substantial results, before voting on the final 100 honorees. As a final step, CIO editors reviewed the judges’ recommendations and voted on the final 100.

The CIO 100 honorees and their achievements will be showcased in the August 1, 2012, issue of CIO and on CIO.com
