The Fonds de Garantie des Dépôts et de Résolution (Deposit insurance-FGDR), created by the law of 25 June 1999, is responsible for protecting and compensating customers in the event of default by their banking institution. The Deposit Guarantee covers deposit accounts and booklets up to €100,000 (excluding booklets guaranteed by the State). The Guarantee of Securities (Garantie des Titres) covers all financial instruments up to €70,000. The Guarantee of Sureties (Garantie des Cautions) covers the commitments of regulatory bonds taken by professionals for their clients.
The FGDR can also intervene in crisis resolution before bankruptcy, to safeguard the customers against consequences.
