Environmentally sustainable renovation pays off
In mid-2010, the Swiss government will refund companies with the first installment of CO2 fuel incentive tax, which has been levied since 2008. UBS will pass on its rebate totaling almost CHF 4 million to existing and future mortgage clients wishing to sustainably renovate their residential property. UBS rewards energy-efficient renovation and supports the goals of the Swiss nationwide building program.

GEAK® and cash bonus
GEAK® is the cantonal building energy performance certificate and forms the basis in determining the cash bonus. The important aspect here is how many GEAK® categories the building can at most be improved by as a result of renovation, i.e. the improvement spanning the greatest number of categories is the one for which funding will be granted (also see calculation example below).

The greater improvement in the example is that relating to the building shell and spans two categories. This corresponds to a cash bonus of CHF 4,000.

How to proceed

   

1.

Get in touch with a certified GEAK® specialist and arrange a viewing appointment for your property. A list of GEAK® specialists can be found at www.geak.ch

2.

Gather together the existing documentation, such as plans, building specifications and all relevant building and energy consumption data (heating, hot water, electricity).

3.

You will then receive the GEAK® certificate, which is created on the basis of the viewing and documentation submitted.

4.

Define the scope of the renovation and the target GEAK® category and obtain the corresponding cost estimate.

5.

Notify your UBS client advisor of your renovation project or use the contact form at www.ubs.com/renovation to arrange a consultation.
