Investment accounting forms an integral component of financial accounting. The assets entrusted to us as part of a Global Custody mandate are reported in investment accounting in accordance with either Swiss or international accounting standards. In addition to our modern, high-performance accounting software, individual level of detail, structure and design are core features of this service. The accounting voucher we produce, which is adapted to suit specific client requirements, can be easily and conveniently consolidated into general accounts; this translates into significantly lower administration fees and costs. To make life easier still, investment accounts can be audited directly by experts at our premises.
Increasing performance pressure and stricter regulatory requirements have led to a fundamental change in the standards of transparency expected in the investment process. This is where UBS investment reporting – a controlling and management instrument that takes these new requirements fully into account – comes into its own. The calculation methods of our reporting system are based on the Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS).
The implementation of the Global Custody concept includes the central safekeeping and administration of all securities investments at UBS. Complete implementation of the concept is not always possible, due to undeliverable assets such as real estate, mortgages, private equity, hedge funds, private placements and closed-end funds. To ensure you have a comprehensive overview of your total assets, UBS offers you the service of including assets held with third parties in the investment reports and investment accounting.
Securities lending offers you the opportunity to lend your securities against receipt of a fee, allowing you to generate additional income on existing securities holdings without restricting your investment flexibility.
Planning, decision-making, organization and control all form part of a manager's activities. Taking charge of the investment process requires access to current and historical management information. Compliance monitoring is the optimum tool to help you carry out management control, and it also forms an integral part of risk management. This in turn is based on a clear overview and transparency, and should serve as a means of loss prevention.
The principle of central asset custody and the standard logic applied for valuations and calculations enable you to view UBS Global Custody Compliance Monitoring as an independent, unbiased and thus generally accepted evaluation of external units.
