When the referee blows his whistle in Basel on June 7 to signal the start of the match between Switzerland and the Czech Republic, the 13th European Football Championships will be underway. It all began in France in 1960, when “just” four teams took part in the final stage of the tournament, then known simply as the European Nations Cup. Today, forty-eight years on, the European Championships is the world’s second-biggest football event after the World Cup.

One of the most emotional stories in the history of musical theatre on one of Europe’s most picturesque floating stages. All the signs are that Leonard Bernstein’s masterpiece West Side Story in Thun will be the cultural highlight of the summer.
The performers will also draw musical fans to the Bernese Oberland. The role of Maria seems tailormade for Joana Fee Würz. She has already been part of the ensemble cast of West Side Story at the Bregenz Festival, and since autumn 2006 the audience favourite has taken a variety of roles including the lead in the musical Rebecca at the renowned Raimund Theatre in Vienna.
Lucius Wolter from Hamburg will write another chapter in his success story as Tony. After numerous leading roles in, among others, The Marriage of Figaro, Elisabeth, The Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar and Les Miserables, West Side Story represents yet another highlight in his astonishing career.

The eerily entertaining multimedia show Vampires Alive transcends everything he has done to date.
