Use unambiguous expressions

Try to use unambiguous expressions that are likely to be found only in the document you are looking for.

Examples: equity fund (instead of fund), mortgage loan (instead of loan), retirement planning (instead of financial planning)

Try alternative expressions

If the search results do not meet your expectations, try a new search with alternative expressions.

Examples: investment fund (instead of equity fund), real estate loan (instead of mortgage loan), pensions (instead of retirement planning)

Group words in quotation marks

You can reduce the number of hits and improve the quality of your search by grouping words that belong together in quotation marks.

Examples: "portfolio management", "structured products"

Select the appropriate language

If the selected user interface language is English, German, French or Italian, the UBS search engine looks only for documents in the respective language.

To find documents in languages other than English, German, French or Italian, i. e. Spanish or Portuguese, please select "Any language" from the dropdown list.

Use inclusion or exclusion operators (+/-)

By default, the search engine links all of the words entered in the search field with "OR", i.e. it finds all documents that contain at least one of the expressions you are looking for. Although the documents are listed in order of the number of search terms they contain, we recommend that you use operators to improve the search results.

Inclusion operator: +
Example: To find documents that contain the word 'mortgage' as well as the phrase 'interest rate' type: +mortgage +"interest rate"

Exclusion operator: -
Example: To find documents that contain the phrase 'credit card' and not the term 'Visa' type: "credit card" -Visa

Do not leave a blank between the operator (plus or minus sign) and the search term.

Advice on capitalization

The UBS Search Engine does not differentiate between upper and lower case

Example:
"exchange rate" +dollar +euro

will find the same results as

"Exchange rate" +Dollar +EURO
