Curators
Contemporary Voices: Works from The UBS Art Collection was curated by Ann Temkin and included 40 of the works donated to MoMA and 24 loaned by UBS and first shown at MoMA earlier this year. The show has been adapted by the Ulf Küster the curator of Fondation Beyeler in co-operation with Ann and includes numerous additional works.
About Ann Temkin
From 1990 through 2003 she was the Muriel and Philip Berman Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Her exhibitions and catalogues include Barnett Newman (2002), Alice Neel (2000-2001), Raymond Pettibon (1998), Constantin Brancusi (1995), and Thinking is Form: The Drawings of Joseph Beuys (1993).
In Philadelphia she also established the exhibition series Museum Studies, which invited contemporary artists to create new work responding to the Museum’s collection, building, or historical context.
She has contributed essays to numerous periodicals, books, and catalogues, including Eva Hesse (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, 2002), Robert Gober (Walker Art Center, 1999) and Mortality/Immortality? The Legacy of 20th Century Art (The Getty Conservation Institute, 1999).
Ms. Temkin is currently Secretary of the National Association of Art Museum Curators. She received her B.A. from Harvard University and her Ph.D. from Yale University.
About Ulf Küster
Born in Stuttgart in 1966, Dr. Ulf Küster studied art history, history and classical archaeology in Freiburg im Breisgau, Berlin and London and obtained his doctorate in 1996 from Freiburg university. From 1997-1999 he was assistant at the Museum of Fine Arts, Leipzig, where he worked on classical modern art (German Expressionism, Max Beckmann) and nineteenth-century art (Fritz von Uhde) exhibitions and also curated the “Neo Rauch” (1997) and “Jörg Herold” (1999) exhibitions.
From 1999-2004 Ulf Küster was a freelance art historian and curator. His exhibitions and catalogues include: “Contemporary Art from Germany,” an exhibition for the German Festival in India (shown in Bombay/Mumbai, Calcutta, Bangalore and New Delhi) and “Theatrum Mundi – Die Welt als Bühne” at Haus der Kunst, Munich, 2003-2004.
Since 2004 he annually contributes to "Pèlerinages", the Weimar art festival, through the project "Weimar - eine Wanderung".
In September 2004 Ulf Küster took up his present position as curator at the Fondation Beyeler, Riehen/Basel, where to-date he has co-curated the exhibitions “Blumenmythos/Flower Myth” (2004-2005), "René Magritte" and “Wolfgang Laib” (2005).
