Rockburne, Dorothea

Genre

Painting, drawing, collages. Geometric Abstraction.

CV

Born 1934. Lives and works in New York.

Attended the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Montréal and studied at the Black Mountain School in North Carolina in the 1950s.

Some paintings look like swirling astrological subjects. Rockburne expresses her sense of harmony, correspondences and patterns with metaphysical significance being fascinated by astronomy and astrophysics. Some of her work is also described as minimalist and geometric because she has folded canvas into parallelograms and triangles with variations of surface texture.
