Art Is for the Spirit: Works from The UBS Art Collection at the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo 2 February - 6 April 2008
This largest ever showing in Asia of works from the Collection will features about 140 paintings, photographs, videos and drawings by sixty prominent international artists from the United States, Europe and Asia, including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jean-Michael Basquiat, Gerhard Richter, Andreas Gursky, Cindy Sherman, Nobuyoshi Araki, Yasumasa Morimura, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Ryuji Miyamoto, and Naoya Hatakeyama.
The Exhibition is divided into three sections: "Body", which focuses on portraiture, a major genre of painting, "Builtworld" which mainly features photography since the 1990's and "Space", which features works depicting the relationship between vast natural landscapes and people, as well as works which depict the universe and its elements such as the moon and stars. A unique feature of the show will be the creation in the galleries of a luxurious "workspace" for the sake of art, a workspace that - complete with office-like work stations - will convey a sense of being at work within the galleries.
