The Figurative Impulse: Works from The UBS Art Collection

The Figurative Impulse: Works from The UBS Art Collection was organized by Marysol Nieves, Curator of Contemporary Art, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico and Matthias Winzen, Curator of The UBS Art Collection and Director of The Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden.

The exhibition presents fifty-three works from the collection that focus on one of the most enduring themes in the history of art - the human figure. In addition to the emphasis on representations of the figure, the exhibition also includes numerous portraits that explore and reinvigorate this traditional genre. The selection highlights drawings, paintings, photographs, mixed media works, and sculpture by thirty-two prominent international artists. Collectively these artists reflect the diverse aesthetic, stylistic, and conceptual approaches to this rich subject and illustrate the range of artistic practices that have developed over the course of the mid-twentieth century through the present.
