Tate Modern and UBS announce dynamic three-year partnership.

On September 29, 2005 UBS announced a dynamic three-year partnership with Tate Modern, Europe’s leading gallery of modern and contemporary art. The partnership promises to take art to a wider audience, including UBS employees, its clients, and the communities in which it does business.

Officially launching in May 2006, the partnership will enable Tate Modern to rehang its permanent Collection for the first time since it opened in 2000. In addition, Tate Modern curators are to be given access to works from The UBS Art Collection for a special series of featured displays that will complement and strengthen the gallery’s own permanent Collection. UBS is also supporting a series of vibrant special events, as well as an ongoing education and interpretation program.

UBS has had a relationship with Tate Modern since the gallery opened in 2000, but today’s announcement marks a significant development in UBS’s support for Tate Modern.

At a press conference earlier this morning, Nicholas Serota, director of Tate Modern, said: “This new collaboration with UBS is unlike any ordinary sponsorship but represents a really exciting partnership, which will enable us to focus on the Collection in new and different ways and reach out to new audiences.”

“The partnership we’re announcing today goes much further than straightforward support for individual exhibitions,” Jeremy Palmer, Wealth Management told the press. ”We are very excited by this huge step forward in our collaboration with Tate Modern and the many opportunities we hope it will provide for broadening access to the vibrant and inspiring world of modern art.”

With today’s announcement, Tate becomes one of several leading public and private art institutions around the globe with which UBS has forged a long-term alliance. Other galleries enjoying similar support include the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Fondation Beyeler in Basel.
