Remembering History: UBS turns 150

In celebration of UBS’s 150th anniversary, close to 250 guests joined in a gala dinner at the Capella hotel in Singapore on 8 March, hosted by UBS Chairman of the Board Kaspar Villiger and Group CEO Sergio Ermotti.

Guests enjoyed a cocktail reception, followed by dinner and an evening of entertainment featuring a visual retrospective of UBS’s history. There was musical entertainment from local artists Dick Lee, Anna Koor and Alemay Fernandez.

A toast to Singapore
Kaspar Villiger opened the evening, thanking stakeholders and partners of the bank including clients, investors, community partners and employees, all of whom “embody all that we are and are able to achieve.”

Guest of Honor, Mr Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade and Industry and Deputy Chairman of Monetary Authority of Singapore congratulated UBS on its 150th anniversary on behalf of the Singapore government. Minister Lim acknowledged UBS as the first Swiss bank to establish a presence in Asia. He commended UBS “as a partner in the growth of our financial sector” and noted the efforts between UBS and Singapore’s government in ensuring the country remains a competitive hub for financial talent.

Group CEO Sergio Ermotti closed the evening by reflecting on the spirit and solidarity of the firm. In commenting on the spirit of the local business, he also paid tribute to UBS Singapore’s work with the local community and lauded the strong spirit of volunteerism that has become characteristic of employees of UBS in Asia Pacific.

Celebrations continue throughout APAC
2012 is a special year for UBS as we commemorate our firm’s 150th anniversary. We intend to mark this occasion proudly yet modestly, hosting a series of internal and external regional events to show our gratitude to all those who have supported us over the years, and our employees will participate in local community activities which serve to enhance some of our social and charitable commitments.



Euromoney names UBS as Best Private Bank in Asia

UBS Wealth Management is honored to receive the award for Best Private Bank in Asia for individuals with assets in excess of US$30 million in Euromoney’s annual Private Banking and Wealth Management Survey.

UBS was also recognized as the Best Private Bank in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan, and the Best Private Bank in Singapore for high net-worth and ultra high net-worth clients. We also took the number one spot for the Best Global Private Bank for Philanthropy Services, Family Office Services, Range of Investment Products, as well as Range of Advisory Services.

Euromoney’s prestigious awards focus on service excellence in private banking. The accolades complement and reinforce the title of ‘Best Private Bank’ in Asia awarded by FinanceAsia and Asian Private Banker respectively, as well as the ‘Best Global Private Bank in Asia’ by Asiamoney in 2011.

UBS Singapore wins prestigious HR award

UBS Singapore won the Kaplan Professional Award for Best Training, Learning and Development at the 2012 HRM Awards ceremony held on 24 February at the Ritz-Carlton hotel, Singapore.

The HRM Awards are widely considered to be the pre-eminent event to recognize and celebrate exceptional human resource practices in Singapore.

The HRM Best Training, Learning and Development Award, won by UBS, considered factors such as training and business objectives; career development strategy and policy; quality of training and development programs; and return of investment on these courses.

UBS Singapore was also nominated as a finalist in four other award categories:

  • Hays Award for Employer of Choice
  • Best Employer Branding
  • Best Recruitment Strategies
  • Fair Employment Practices

A Global Partner of Formula 1™

UBS’s Global Partnership of Formula 1™ was formally launched at the 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX in September 2010. Consistently reaching more than 578 million people from over 180 countries each year, F1™ is one of the most watched annual sports in the world.

The 2012 F1™ calendar features 20 races in 19 countries spanning five continents. The 2012 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX in Austin, Texas joins the calendar this year. Five former F1™ World Champions will be competing against defending champion, Sebastian Vettel, for the 2012 championship: Jenson Button, Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Räikkönen and Lewis Hamilton.

2012 FORMULA 1 QANTAS AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

The 2012 F1™ season kicked off with the first race in Melbourne, Australia on 16 to 18 March. UBS guests enjoyed a weekend of action from the exclusive UBS Paddock Club suite situated directly above the Mercedes AMG Petronas team garage. Former F1™ champion David Coulthard stopped by the UBS suite to greet guests and share his first-hand experiences in F1™. Current F1™ driver Nico Rosberg and team principal Ross Brawn from the Mercedes AMG Petronas team also visited the suite, where UBS guests were treated to a full range of activities, including garage tours and pit-lane walks.

In addition to the F1™ Paddock Club experience, UBS guests were invited to participate in the inaugural ‘UBS Cycle the Circuit race’ held on the Albert Park Circuit on Saturday evening. Guests donned UBS cycling outfits and headed for the starting grid where David Coulthard waved the cyclists off. Triple Tour de France Green Jersey winner Robbie McEwen and Olympic silver medalist Shane Kelly set the pace as they led the group around the circuit. Guests ‘Cycled the Circuit’ for a good cause - with UBS donating 10,000 Australian dollars to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the official charity of the Australian Grand Prix.

UBS clients were also invited to attend a private lunch event with David Coulthard, and employees participated in an informal Q&A session hosted in UBS’s Melbourne office.



2012 FORMULA 1 UBS CHINESE GRAND PRIX

Another marquee race on the 2012 F1™ calendar is the 2012 FORMULA 1 UBS CHINESE GRAND PRIX, which took place in Shanghai on 13 to 15 April.

To celebrate UBS’s Title Sponsorship of the FORMULA 1 CHINESE GRAND PRIX, a new goblet-inspired trophy—drawing on China’s 5,000-year culture and history—was launched in 2011. The goblet has long been a symbol of power and prestige, and is a fitting accolade for the winning driver of the 2012 FORMULA 1 UBS CHINESE GRAND PRIX. The trophy celebrates our Title Sponsorship of the 2012 FORMULA 1 UBS CHINESE GRAND PRIX and symbolizes UBS’s commitment to the China market and our appreciation of its culture.

As an integral part of the 2012 F1™ campaign in China, UBS also unveiled a chic new look for the 2012 FORMULA 1 UBS CHINESE GRAND PRIX grid girl uniform, designed and created by homegrown Chinese fashion designer Alex Wang. The design is inspired not only by the UBS F1™ global marketing campaign that features the curb design, an element that is quintessentially F1™, but also by Chinese heritage, incorporating a touch of local tradition with the timeless qipao dress.
