Cultural Awareness Network
The Cultural Awareness networks foster the development of cultural competencies among its membership while supporting employees working in a new culture. |
The Cultural Awareness Network is a forum that aims to facilitate employee discussion and promote bank-wide awareness and understanding of cultural issues. Building on the momentum achieved to date under the Diversity initiative, the network's objectives are to:
Raise cultural awareness within UBS
Act as an informal support group in order to assist in personal development and effectiveness
Influence and support management and policy makers to continue incorporating cultural awareness in the Bank's strategy
Contribute to positive public relations in the community
In 2007, the Cultural Awareness Network in London hosted a series of lunchtime interactive seminars on working in cross-cultural teams. The sessions contained an introduction to concepts of culture, an interactive cultural learning experience and an opportunity for Q&A. They also hosted an evening speaker event celebrating the culture and economic climate of Modern Britain, as well as networking and speed mentoring events for small and medium enterprises in the local area. They also ran events to celebrate Black History Month.
In early 2007, the Americas Cultural Awareness Network launched its 'Language and Cultural Exchange' series. In addition to getting basic information about the cultural and customs of various countries, these lunch time seminars included a short language tutorial.
The network welcomes all employees to participate in its activities.
