For many children of Brazil, a lack of educational
opportunity threatens their future prospects. UBS
supports an education training program in
Paraisópolis, one of the largest slum areas of Latin
America, that provides access to education for
3-7 year-olds from deprived backgrounds.
Espaço Nossa Casa aims to give children an
education of the same standard they would receive
from a fee-paying institution. The school has been so
successful that absenteeism is almost non-existent
and the children and parents have requested
weekend classes. The project also promotes
community regeneration by training local people to
assist with the program. |
