Education is the essential prerequisite for children and young people to escape the vicious circle of poverty. In Ethiopia however, one of the world’s poorest countries, only one-fifth of all girls complete primary school. The project described here enables some 3,000 children to attend school while at the same time exploiting the potential of the sport of running to teach pupils about body consciousness, hygiene, team spirit and goal orientation.
