teammeeting

"I noticed an ad for UBS’s Public Policy department on the University of St. Gallen job board. The task description matched my course of study perfectly, and as far as I’m concerned UBS is a very interesting and attractive employer.

So I sent in an application dossier, and after two meetings with Human Resources and an interview with my future manager I received a positive response – admission to a three-month internship with Public Policy. The work (researching and writing reports on economic policy issues, preparing a number of presentations, liaising with state financial institutions) was very interesting, above all because it encompassed a wide range of topics and areas, and I was given the opportunity to work independently and contribute my own ideas, even as an intern. I also found the working atmosphere in the department very pleasant, and was given the opportunity to get to know UBS better and from a hands-on perspective.

A year later I completed another internship with Public Policy, this one lasting two months. During this second internship, a position within the Graduate Training Program (GTP) was advertised in the department. Since I really enjoyed the work, was already familiar with the unit and knew that the GTP Program offers the best possible route into UBS after completing my studies, there was no way I was going to pass up the opportunity. The advantage of the GTP is that you are not only integrated into the bank’s working procedures, but also have access to a wide range of training opportunities and can develop your own network of contacts through the internal events offered. I applied for the position and went through the normal application process, i.e. a meeting with a representative from Human Resources, an interview within the department and, finally, the one-day Assessment Center. Since January 3, 2005, I have been working as a GTP in the Public Policy department.

For me, the two internships at UBS not only enabled me to gain valuable practical experience and get to know the company, but also helped kick-start my career and gave me the opportunity to take up an extremely interesting and challenging job in a very pleasant environment."
