Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA)

The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) began on 28 January 2008, making euro payments in Europe more efficient and cheaper over the next few years. By 2010, any differences in the processing of cross-border payments and domestic payments for credit transfers and direct debits in retail euro payments should have been eliminated. Today SEPA incorporates 31 countries* throughout Europe, i.e. all member states of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) plus Switzerland.
