On 31 March 2008, the number of employees was 21,320. This is a decrease of 612, or 3%, from the end of fourth quarter 2007 and a decrease of 859 from first quarter 2007. As announced on 1 October 2007, the level of staff in the Investment Bank was reduced across all businesses due to weak performance and the corresponding restructuring of the business. The number of employees in the Investment Bank has been reduced by a total of 1,513 people since the end of third quarter 2007.
