Risk management plays a critical role in the construction and oversight of Growth Investors’ portfolios as team members seek to take only compensated risks.
Using the Global Equity Risk Management System ('GERS'), UBS Global Asset Management’s proprietary risk system, provides team members insights into individual securities, countries, currencies, sectors, risk and market factors, as well as into estimates of overall predicted tracking error. GERS also provides up-to-the-minute risk profiles for all investment portfolios, including a 'what if' capability that enables portfolio managers to test different trade scenarios. Based on these risk reports, portfolio risk is managed in two principal ways:
Exposures are limited relative to the relevant benchmark indexes. Each of our strategies adheres to strict limits governing the overweights or underweights relative to the benchmark index.
Active specific risk is managed by holding a large number of stocks. This helps to reduce the influence of any one security on portfolio performance.
