A publication written by the IBM Research Laboratory (Zurich) and UBS analysed and evaluated challenge/response-based authentication procedures with regard to security risks and expansion capabilities. The outcome: the chip card-based security solution introduced in 2002 to replace scratch lists was a sound move.
