Everyone at UBS has their performance measured and managed through a formal appraisal. Its an intensive, often 360° conversation that can involve feedback from everyone you work with: your clients, your teammates and your peers on the other side of the globe.
We recognize that its important for you to be challenged and rewarded in your work. Were a high-performance environment, and these evaluations help us keep pace with your long-term goals. With the clearest possible assessment, we can best gauge your short-term success and prepare you for a fruitful, lasting career.
Performance Measurement and Management (PMM)
Our Performance Measurement and Management (PMM) process is designed to recognize and reward individual contributions to team success and reinforce our meritocratic, performance-oriented culture.
PMM is a continuous cycle of objective setting and performance review that is characterized by transparent methods and continuous open dialogue. By highlighting areas for prospective improvement and identifying obvious gaps, it also provides a framework for your personal and professional development.
How it works
When you join UBS, and at the beginning of each year, you will agree on specific objectives with your line manager and identify development areas. Setting clear objectives helps you, your manager and your team to align your actions to our strategic priorities and values.
Having meaningful goals that you work hard to achieve brings personal satisfaction and proof of accomplishment when you look back at the end of the year. And by setting ambitious targets, you can develop new competencies that will further your career advancement.
During the year, you will concentrate on achieving your objectives. This is supported by continuous feedback and may include interim evaluations. Feedback focuses on reinforcing successes as well as addressing shortfalls. We consider the feedback dialog between managers and their teams essential to a climate of continuous learning and professional growth.
Towards the end of the year, you and your line manager will assess your achievements against these targets to evaluate your individual contribution, identify your strengths and pinpoint areas of focus for the forthcoming year. In many instances, feedback is gathered from multiple sources. This helps ensure fairness and builds a more complete picture of your contribution.
What it means
PMM results influence decisions on salary increases, individual incentive awards and promotions. Top performers receive proportionately higher rewards. But most importantly, PMM enables you to take greater responsibility for the direction and fulfillment of your career at UBS.
