Compensation philosophy

UBS’s compensation philosophy is designed to help us to motivate, attract and retain talented employees who share our passion for serving the client.

We believe compensation should provide incentives that inspire our culture and support our strategy. Through a meritocratic approach, superior performance is rewarded and recognized.

Lastly, we make certain the financial interests of our employees align with those of our shareholders. Each compensation element is measured within the framework of our business model.

Over the course of your career, we offer the following forms of compensation:

  • Base pay
    Your base salary recognizes the experience, skills and knowledge that you bring to your role. We determine your salary level based on your rank or functional role, level of responsibility, individual skills and competencies and the wider market environment.

  • Bonuses
    Annual incentive awards (bonuses) reflect the performance of the firm and its various businesses as well as your individual contribution. Incentive awards are discretionary and can be highly variable from year to year.

  • Stock options
    In addition to an annual discretionary incentive award, you may be awarded UBS shares. Our highest performing employees and those with highest potential are eligible for discretionary stock option awards (certain conditions apply). Most employees can take part in the Equity Plus stock option program, through which you can buy UBS shares at fair market value and generally receive a fixed number of UBS options for each share purchased in line with the rules of the program.
