THE PLAYERS – A World-Class Event

THE PLAYERS has long been considered one of the premiere events on the PGA TOUR calendar. The Championship features the strongest field in golf, as well as the richest purse. And, of course, the venue plays a key role too with Pete Dye’s PLAYERS Stadium Course and its famous 17th hole always taking center stage during the tournament. The Stadium Course will host its second PLAYERS after being remodeled before 2007 event, which Phil Mickelson won by two strokes over Sergio Garcia.

The best players in the world will meet at TPC Sawgrass, home of THE PLAYERS Stadium Course, starting on May 5 for the first of three voluntary practice rounds with the Championship rounds commencing on May 8 as the players march towards the crystal trophy and a part of the $9MM purse (about 1.7MM to the winner).

UBS is also one of the leading actors in THE PLAYERS drama as the Firm enters its fourth year as a partner of this prestigious event. As with 2006 and 2007, UBS will host the UBS 17th Challenge onsite at THE PLAYERS. The UBS 17th Challenge offers fans a chance to hit an actual golf ball to a scaled replica of the famed 17th hole island green. The replica green is approximately 25% of the size of the actual 17th hole with a 33-yard shot from the tee to the center of the green, which is about a quarter of the length of the real 17th hole. Daily competitions were held, including “Hold the Green,” “Closest to the Pin” and “Hole in One.”
