Locarno International Film Festival

The Piazza Grande provides a unique backdrop for one of the most renowned film festivals in the world: This festival shows film from the best angle, where film buffs can indulge their passion in a unique setting. It’s no wonder then that this unique event attracts thousands of filmgoers every year, who come to Locarno to experience the magic of film. Last year around 186'000 visitors came to the lago Maggiore. Needless to say, the audience makes a significant contribution to the success of the Festival. What makes Locarno so special is its use of an audience jury in addition to the official jury. The audience has a chance to decide which film will win the «Prix du Public UBS», presented on the final evening of the festival. Last year's lucky winner was "Death at a Funeral" from Frank Oz.

Because the cinematic arts play such a significant role in our sponsorship concept, we are all the more delighted to present the «Prix du Public UBS» on behalf of the cinema-going public in recognition of this vital art form.
