The German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung ranks the Zurich Ballet under the direction of Heinz Spoerli as one of the finest ballet companies in Europe, even the world. Its numerous performances have captivated audiences in Switzerland and abroad and are testament to its success.

Heinz Spoerli, Ballet Director

Born in Basel, Heinz Spoerli began his remarkable career as a protégé of Walter Kleiber. He has danced under the direction of Todd Bolender in Cologne, at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and at the Grands Ballets Canadiens in Montreal. In 1973 he began his career as choreographer for the ballet company at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva, and during the same year became ballet director in Basel. Today Heinz Spoerli is working in successful partnership with the Zurich Ballet at the Zurich Opera House.

The Zurich Ballet

With 40 dancers from around the world, the Zurich Ballet is the largest ballet company in Switzerland and a cornerstone of the Zurich Opera House. Under the direction of Heinz Spoerli, the ballet has succeeded in attracting an ever-greater public, not only within Switzerland, but also around the world.

Their many performances at home and abroad have helped choreographer Heinz Spoerli and his team of dancers to reach the pinnacle of success. The Herald Tribune does not call them „the most beautiful company of dancers in Europe” for nothing.
