1925

The "Roaring Twenties"
begin. They end on "Black Friday", October 25, 1929.

Othmar Ammann (1879-1965), a Swiss engineer, built both, the George Washington Bridge and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, for the Port of New York Authority and was a consultant for the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

The London Office moves to the newly constructed building at the corner of Gresham and Coleman Streets.

1928

Max Staehelin

 

Max Staehelin succeeds Léopold Dubois as Chairman of SBC.

UBS acquires the Banque Sutter & Cie., Fleurier, and integrates it into the existing branch.

1929

October 25 ("Black Friday")

With the stock exchange crash on Wall Street in New York the Great Depression of the 1930's begins - and with it a world economic crisis.

A five member 'Generaldirektion' (General Management) takes over the functions of the 'Delegation of the Board of Directors' which had been created in 1917. One General Manager is in Zurich, one in Geneva and three are in Basle.
