By now Winterthur had become an important industrial city and a central junction of several railway lines in Eastern Switzerland.

The Bank in Winterthur opens for business in Winterthur, a city east of Zurich. It has an initial share capital of 5 million Swiss Francs.

1863

Foundation of the International Committee of the Red Cross by Henri Dunant in Geneva.

 

"Toggenburger Bank", Lichtensteig, around 1930

The Toggenburger Bank opens for business in Lichtensteig, a small town in Eastern Switzerland. It has an initial share capital of 1.5 million Swiss Francs.

1869

Construction starts on the Gotthard Railway.
