Mentoring projects
Employee volunteers give students guidance and share the benefits of their experience through a number of programs. The Big Brothers Big Sisters Workplace Program matches UBS volunteers with local high school students. There are program sessions two afternoons a month at UBS offices. UBS mentors also introduce students to major cultural institutions, like the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan.

Teamwork
Employees and their families participated in more than 380 community volunteer projects in 2004. These included such events as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Walks, Special Olympics and Komen Race for the Cure.

Habitat for Humanity is a flagship project for volunteer teams. More than 800 employees will be involved in house-building projects in over 10 states in 2005. Employee teams in Detroit will take part in the Jimmy Carter Work Day project, the signature annual build event of Habitat for Humanity.

Volunteer grants
The Volunteer Action Grant Program provides grants of up to USD500 on behalf of employees to eligible organizations. UBS also contributes up to USD2,500 to events such as walks, runs, rides, or volunteer projects where groups of employees participate.

Matched giving
Eligible employees can make donations to charity through UBS and US matched giving programs. Donations to eligible US not-for-profit organizations are matched, dollar for dollar, up to USD2,500 per employee per calendar year.

Gifts-in-kind
UBS has donated 4,000 personal computers over five years to Connecticut’s technology enhancement program for elementary and secondary schools. Over the past five years, employees have donated nearly 7,000 books to schools, community centers and organizations that feature reading in their summer programs.

Every year, in all our major employment centers in the US, UBS employees participate in drives collecting items to make the holidays special for those in need. In 2004, employees purchased gifts such as clothing, household goods and toys that benefited hundreds of families across the United States.
